EAR FALLS – The Township of Ear Falls has leased the property at 100 Airport Road to 3 Points in Space Media Ltd. for the purpose of developing a Northern Ontario Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Center of Excellence and Emergency Response Support Centre.
This project is being completed in conjunction with Transport Canada in order to connect essential services with remote communities throughout Canada through the use of RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems or drones). The project endeavors to provide 33 First Nation Communities in Northwestern Ontario with immediate emergency support, medical supplies, search and rescue, fire detection, logistical coordination and aid in disaster relief.
3 Points in Space Media Ltd. is also working to provide delivery of heavy cargo over long distances using RPAS in partnership with Independent First Nation Alliance (IFNA), Transport Canada, Indigenous Services Canada and the Scientific Commodities and Projects Division of Public Works and Government Services of Canada. The project will blueprint the processes that bridge the gap between innovation and development of regulations related to use of a new class of RPAS (56 – 600 lbs).
Mayor Kahoot stated, “I am excited to see this underutilized piece of municipal property be leased, with an option to extend or purchase the property. This is an innovative project that will advance drone use in Canada and assist communities in Northwestern Ontario.”
3 Points in Space Media’s President, Sean Adams noted, “We are excited to be working with the community of Ear Falls and our Indigenous partner, IFNA, to bring next generation RPAS technology and innovation to Northern Ontario. We believe that our new innovation, training and emergency services facility will bring regional, national and international exposure to the Ear Falls community which will in turn create opportunities for future growth within Ear Falls and the local region. We are also looking forward to adding to the regional Emergency Management capacity by working with local and regional stakeholders to augment forward base operations, evacuation support and equipment storage capabilities.”
